Carp fishing tackle is sometimes exclusively fashioned. Here’s a brief glossary of some important terms related to carp fishing tackle and carp fishing gear.
Terms Related to the Carp Species
Barbels: Two organs located on the upper jaw of the carp fish which are similar in appearance to whiskers. Barbels make it easier for carp to find their food in dirty water.
Cloopers: Carp that are feeding on the surface.
Mudders: Carp that are feeding on the bottom. This is proven by all the mud they kick to the surface.
Coarse fish: All species that are not members of the trout or salmon families.
Carp Fishing Tackle -Words Associated with Carp Tackle and Rigs
Leader: A section of durable line that is around 30 to 40 feet. A leader is connected to the main line since it is harder to abrade. Then, a hook length is connected to the leader’s end so that you can attach the the carp bait.
Shock leader: A piece of really strong line that can handle the powerfulness of long casts.
Feeder: A subordinate piece of carp tackle; it is a cage which is connected to the leader rather than a sinker. Bait is pressed into the feeder to attract the carp to the baited hook.
Float: A bobber with more sensitivity than the usual red and white globes. Floats are lengthy and slim and are used as signals to detect bites and also instruments for offering the bait up to the carp fish.
Semi-fixed: This is an item of carp fishing tackle which enables the leader to break loose from the line should a snag be encountered. A bolt rig is a type of semi-fixed rig which will (by self-acting) hook carp at the time that the leader tightens up.
Fixed: Means that a leader or tackle doesn’t slide up or down a line or pull loose upon breakage of the main line.
Stringer: Baits that are hook-less and are positioned close to the bait that is hooked—these are “free flowing” bait.
Terms Related to Carp Bait
Tiger nut: A small tuber that is an excellent carp bait which is terrific bait for attracting carp}. Tiger nuts must be boiled until thick and sticky before use.
Chum: Bait that is thrown into the water to attract fish to the vicinity of the hook bait.
Boilie: A kind of bait which is made of hard, round dough. Boilies are made from a variety of grains mixed with water to form a thick dough, formed into sphere shapes and boiled.
