Does anyone know how wet, dry, tail-end and deluge sprinkler systems work??
Wet-pipe systems contain water under pressure at all times. This system is used in climate controlled areas.
Dry-pipe systems contains air under pressure that replaces water in the sprinkler pipes above the dry-pipe valve. This system is used in areas where exposed pipes might freeze.
A deluge system is equipped with open sprinkler heads and a deluge valve. Fire detection equipment is installed in the same area as the sprinkler heads. When a fire is dectected, the deluge valve is opened, which permits water to flow into the system and out of all sprinkler heads at the same time. This is normally used to protect extra-hazardous areas.
I’ve never heard of a tail-end system but I’m almost 8 years out of practice. There are pre-action systems that combine a dry-system, deluge valves, fire detection devices and closed sprinkler heads. There are also carbon-dioxide systems, dry chemical systems and foam systems.
