Back in Shakespeare’s day, women were thought of as harmless, docile creatures who needed to be tended to, treated with kid gloves and taken care of. Lady Mac is using this stereotype as a means of defense for the thoughts/actions she has/will take during the course of the play that fall beyond her station as a woman.
