Sea Fishing Tackle Review: The Shakespeare Tidewater 60 Surf Reel
Whenever I journey out with my sea fishing tackle on an adventure to one of this country’s fantastic fishing spots, I have to stop and think about how lucky people are in the UK to have such a lengthy and rich heritage of fishing. This fishing reel is part of Shakespeare’s series of saltwater-resistant front drag reels. It has plenty of quality features and excellent specifications, including a reinforced graphite body that won’t corrode, and a precision-machined anodised spool. I do like a front drag because I prefer the location of the drag control knob to be on the top of the spool. I have noted that front drag reels are considerably more powerful than rear drag models, mainly for the reason that there are less gears, which means that there is a lesser possibility for something malfunctioning, this is always good! This reel comes with another spool; it will accommodate about 130 meters of 20 lb test line.

The Tidewater 60 is equipped with a comfy counterbalanced handle, and also has one ball bearing. Shakespeare has thought of everything — the reel even comes with 210 metres of Stren 17 lb test monofilament line included — which is a significant cost saving. The gear ratio is 4.5:1.
