How do I clean a show saddle?
I just bought a nice show saddle but it is a bit worn out, the metal on it is rusted (minor) and the leather is a bit hard and is chapped a bit. The saddle is black with metal conchos and metal plating.
They had it in storage for a year and the bit is green.
What are the steps that I should take in cleaning it? and what product do you recomend?
The plating and conchos I am not sure how to remove?
Go to a tack store and buy leather conditioner made especially for saddles and follow the directions on the label or from the store clerk. You can buy silver polish from a local grocery store and polish the metal and it will make it look brand new!
Thats what I did when I bought my first saddle and it looks as good as new!
I recommend a product that is called “Leather food”. It’s a german product and it works wonders!
