Saltwater Minnow trap…what bait to use?
I’m going summer flounder fishing and want to use live bait. Got the standard screen trap and I know the basic bait to put in like bread, dog/cat food, but are there anything better bait fish likes? How about can o tuna, liver, or even bottled cooking squid juice over bread? Anyone have a special recipe?
My fishing location is Long Island NY, close to Jones Beach.
For traps in saltwater, I like to go with blue crabs. Cut the crabs in quarters (whole) and let them do their magic. You can also go with a fish head cut in quarters, squid, chopped shrimp, sardines in the can ( with oil) or a bag of sea food mix ( found in many markets). There’s no real recipe, small fish will eat just about anything they can to get them through the day. That’s just easy pickin’s for the rest of us. ~good luck catchin’
