“I Have A Dream” Speech by Martin Luther King Jr.. Help?
Can you explain what the comparison that Martin Luther King Jr is making in these 2 metaphors?
1. “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”
2. “With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.”
1 – it’s easier to hate the people keeping you down, but answering hate with more hate only creates conflict.
2 – the work of breaking down barriers creates a core of something valid. I personally think that was NOT one of Dr. King’s better metaphors.
