How Good Are Shimano R086 Cycling Shoes?

Shimano R086 Cycling Shoes are fully-featured sports shoes that are perfect for club racing and recreational use, with an RRP of ?79.99.

They have reflective detail on the heel, the upper is stretch resistant synthetic fabric, therefore it ensures a breathable and sturdy shoe with an excellent fit. The outer sole is fibreglass backed nylon, that gives an excellent combination of rigidity and compliance for club and sport riders. Additionally the shoes have air holes for ventilation, buckle closure and two offset hook and loop straps. The cleat compatibility is SPD-SL style 3 bolt and SPD style 2-bolt.

These are certainly terrific shoes for a very keen price, yet the vent at the front means they could be very chilly throughout autumn/winter.

With these shoes you have to go one size up from what you would generally take, but if you bear with this rule you should find the shoes immensely comfortable and a fab snug fit with the ratchet tightening system. Not long ago I bought these shoes and have just finished a 60 mile sportive with no problems at all. I found them to be very comfortable and practical.

I honestly can’t find many fault with these shoes so far. I upgraded from a three strap velcro shoe and these are a tremendous improvement on the others. As brought up in the past the ventilation is very good, from the hole on the sole of the shoe, round an inch in front of the cleat. However, on the cold Winter days you may need to close it up, as it is just too cold, a small scrap of foam covered with electrical tape is all it needs, keeps the water out too.The parts of the sole that you walk on are coated by a little rubber which makes walking a lot more comfortable, less liable to slipping and less “clip clop”. They look perfect, but a single ride in the rain will leave them looking a little dull, therefore if you want them to stay brilliant white you’ll need to buff them a little.

In general, a big thumbs up for the shimano R086 cycling shoes, a versatile, value for money pair of road shoes.
