fly fishermen,I need some definitions.?
I’m new to trout stream fishing,so I bought a book. BARR FLIES by John S. Barre. Can you tell me what a goose biot is,or herl.
Herl is from a Peacock feather. For some reason fish just love the ereidesance of the herl. You may also use Peacock Swards, the herl on these are a bit bigger and brighter then regular herl. This has been used for body material ( Griffith’s nat ) and for nymph wing cases and many other uses in fly tying..
Goose Biot comes from a goose feather. Most of us use it for tailing material on nymphs. It may also be used as a body material for nymph’s or dries.
Welcome to the trout stream and good luck.
