Episiotomy healed wrong!?
My baby is 9 weeks old today. I had a forceps delivery with him which required an episiotomy. Two days after giving birth the stitching came undone and I was left with an open 1cm long gape. I went back to the hospital and they said it would heal on its own – which it has but wrong. Where the gape was, there is a raised lumpy area on the scar tissue which causes a bit of discomfort. (sorry if tmi)
I had my 8 week check-up on Wednesday and showed my doctor who noticed the area straight away without me having to tell her that it was causing me problems. She has said to massage the area to try and get the blood flowing to it which will hopefully smooth it out and to go back in 4 weeks to then discuss other options.
Has this happened to anyone else and what can happen if it doesn’t go back to ‘normal’.
Something like this happened to me…
My stitched dit not come out like your did, but my body started rejecting them and my skin grew over top of the stitching before they got a chance to dissolve. MY midwoife had to cut the skin and try to remove the stitches. However, I had MANY stitches because i tore and had an episiotomy (forceps delivery aswell). She could not remove all of the stitches so at 12 weeks postpartum I STILL had some underneath the skin and it got VERY irritated. I could have had them removed if I went to the hospital or she said I could just wait. I chose to wait. Now 15 months postpartum I still have a raised lumpy area on my scar and this creates discomfort. It is uncomfertable to walk, sit, or stand for too long. Also to sit corss legged. And sex is very painful! I have to go to the OBGYN soon for my yearly pap and we are going to talk about having the lumpy area (which is actually scar tissue buildup) surgically removed.
After you have kids, you probably won’t ever go back to ‘normal’ down there. BUT if there is pain or discomfort then you need to see a doctor. I was told it could take 8months to 1year for the scar tissue to soften and no longer cause pain. So you might just have to wait it out.
