Fly Fishing Waders – Which Ones Are Best?
Fly fishing is an activity which brings anglers straight into the water more so than any other kind of fishing. Instead of standing at the banks of the river and fishing, fly fisher men jump in with both feet first, knowing that standing in the middle of the water can yield that “big catch”. Since fly fishing involves standing in the middle of the water, they need fly fishing waders to help them stay dry.
You can buy a fly fishing wader that is one-piece with the boot attached. Cover-all waders are better for rivers and deep lakes. Hip-style waders are suitable for shallow waters. The most economical fly fishing waders are made of rubber. They are water proof but offer no breathability. Gore Tex is another waterproof material that offers supreme breathability. For cold water neoprene is the best material. Extra features of a wader include wading belts that helps prevent the water from entering in the waist area, attached hooks for gear securing and sealable pockets.
Choosing a boot-footed fishing wader saves money when compared to a separate boot and it takes less time to put them on. With boot-footed waders, the boot is connected so the chance of leakage is less. You need to choose the right fly fishing wader and choosing the precise material is not an easy decision. In higher elevations, neoprene is best suited as the water is colder in the streams. The material used for neoprene is similar to those used in divers’ wet suits. As it doesn’t allow breathability, it is not adviseable to use in hot temperatures.
Fly fishing waders keep fishermen dry in cold water, protect their feet, are durable, breathable and leak proof. They are available in different shapes and sizes which are suitable for even children and women. For warm water wading, it is better to wear light and air tight waders. The most common problem is leaky waders but they can often be sealed and reused if damaged. Neoprene suits are great in cold water and trout streams. These waders are warm and thick but you cannot wear these for a long periods as they are not breathable.
The main problem in choosing the perfect waders are finding ones that fit for your feet. Many can’t find the appropriate waders for their size and end up getting the wrong size and are disappointed. But recently, manufacturing companies are concentrating on the boot size difficulty faced by many people, so they are manufacturing waders that are semi custom. With semi-custom wader, the customers are allowed to select their size of the wader and also the foot size. Few companies are even concentrating on making the exact size that fits a customer. While a custom fitted wader may be the solution to fly fishing wader sizing issues, the price can be prohibitive for casual hobbyists.
