how safe is shredding documents?
Is strip cutting fine enough or should I get a shredder that crosscuts?
Strip provides little security. It is easy to put together just on the kitchen table. The other problem is the shreds are so large important information often isn’t even cut into multiple pieces. Cross-cut provides better security but can be re-assembled for $100 a page with a scanner and some software. The best security is if the paper is torn by the fiber into irregular pieces. This is done with grinders or industrial shredders.
