Why do cats hate water?
We gave out cat a mini shower the other day very gently, but she howled, hissed and jumped as high as she could to get out. This is our first cat and experience with this.
My cats love the water. They even sit in the shower at the other end and watch me wash my hair! I raised mine with water though. I bottle fed my kitten and bathed her regularly, so she’s used to it. You need to do certain things for cats who hate water to make it more comfortable and acceptable to them.
1) Have the kitchen sinks (both) filled before you bring the cat in the room for the bath.
2) Have the shampoo and a cup next to the sink you’ll be bathing the cat in.
3) Have at least 2 people washing the cat.
4)Use the cup to thoroughly wet the cat before adding shampoo to the fur.
5) Talk sweetly, calmly, and quietly during the bath. Always say to the cat that they are a good kitty/boy/girl.
6) Have a towel laid out and ready next to the second sink that you’ll be using to rinse the cat with.
7) When rinsing the cat, restrain both front feet in one hand and both rear feet in the other hand while laying them on their side to help rinse out the shampoo better, while the second person rubs the fur to help rinse the shampoo out. Hold on to the feet firmly.
Hold the cat above the rinse sink as the second person tries to “squish” out the excess water.
9) Place kitty on the towel and roll it up in it.
10) Let the clean kitty go dry off INSIDE the house!
