Is Black Parachute cord what the U.S. Army Rangers used in Black Hawk Down?
In the movie Black Hawk Down they tie some kind of black string,cord, ???, to the sight of the M16 rifle and wrap some around there stocks and tie it to ther slings and use 100 mile an hour tape to secure it to the stock. Is Black Parachute cord what they used in the movie? If not then what did they use? Why did they use the Black Stuff on the M16′s?
Yes it was parachute cord/550 cord. They used it to extend their slings for comfort. It allows them to mount their slings on top of their buttstocks. The M16A2/A4 sling mounted on the bottom of the buttstock. The 100-mph tape was used to keep the 550cord in place. This is known as the John Wayne sling. It allows your rifle to be slung over your back and quickly moved to the front. on the new M4 buttstocks the sling can mount on top eliminating the need for the modification.
